Lycian Art Movement Manifesto: A Pledge to Protect the Heritage of Light Through Art
Lycia’s heritage of thousands of years and its remarkable nature speak again through the power of art and environmental awareness. The Lycian Art Movement sets out to carry the memory of the past into the future, to protect nature and to build a sustainable future in the Land of Light. Join us on this journey.

1. The Echo of the Past, The Voice of the Future
The Lycian Art Movement Manifesto is a pledge of commitment to a heritage. In antiquity, the cities of Lycia formed a league in which they voted according to their size and made decisions together. The geographer Strabo praised the Lycian League as a well-governed union. It was not only a political structure, but also a way of living together.
As Voice of Lycia, after four years of research and with a deep bond to this land, we want to bring this spirit of union back to life today through the language of art.
The Lycian Art Movement is not just a community; it is a bridge of memory where history, nature and people meet through art.
2. Why We Are Here
Today, Lycia faces uncontrolled construction, environmental pollution and a form of tourism focused only on consumption. From the turquoise waters of Demre to the ancient stones of Kaş, this land is waiting to be protected. We are here to break this silence through art.
- Environmental awareness: Our art will be the voice of polluted seas, disappearing forests and the construction that is closing in around ancient sites.
- Sustainability: We see tourism not only as travelling, but as sustaining and protecting. We want to leave future generations a living Lycia, not just photographs.
Art is here to give a voice to Lycia’s silent stones and to its polluted waters.
3. We Believe in the Unifying Power of Art
For us, art is not just paint on a canvas or carved stone. Art is talking about environmental problems on the steps of an ancient theatre, and imagining a sustainable way of life in the shade of a sarcophagus.
The Lycian Art Movement sees the artist not as a witness, but as part of the change. An artist’s work is a powerful way to draw attention to Lycia’s nature and culture, and to call for their protection.
4. Who Are We? What Do We Want?
We are:
- A team in love with the dust of the Lycian Way, the depth of history and the waves of the Mediterranean.
- People who see sustainable tourism not as a choice, but as a necessity.
- Believers that art can raise awareness by touching people’s hearts, even on the most complex environmental issues.
Our goal is clear: to organise art gatherings around Lycia’s ancient sites, with the necessary permits and without harming them, and to grow environmental awareness in its bays and villages. We want to build a network of solidarity where local producers, young artists and travellers who respect nature work hand in hand.
5. Our Call: Walk With Us
To the artist reading this: if you say, “I want my art to be part of real change, not only to be exhibited”,
To the leader of an institution reading this: if you say, “I want our institution to be a guardian of heritage, not just a name on a sign”,
You belong in this movement. Because Voice of Lycia will echo with your voice.

6. Principles of the Lycian Art Movement
- Respect for nature: Every work we create exists in harmony with nature, without causing harm.
- Cultural depth: Our source is Lycia’s symbols, stories and beliefs, thousands of years old. We interpret them with respect for scholarly knowledge.
- Social benefit: Our art aims to raise awareness in local communities and to contribute to the local economy in ethical ways.
- International vision: We aim to share our local values with the world through EU projects and international art networks.
“Light rises from Lycia. We carry that light into the future with art, awareness and love.”
